How to Ace a Fall Mudroom Décor

A toteful of pumpkins!

Today Coco and I are super excited to welcome you to another little corner of our home. Our mudroom is perhaps the busiest and usually the messiest room in the house, other than the laundry room. It is also one of two front entries and the one used most often. As such it is an area that guests see first when they arrive. For these reasons I try to maintain it mess free and as warm and welcoming as possible.

Because we have four seasons to live with I don’t go overboard with seasonal decorating. I enjoy rotating my decor by sprinkling seasonal touches throughout as opposed to full blown displays. My fall mudroom decor exhibits a touch of fall rustic that is simple to achieve and budget friendly.

  • The split Federal mirror is a favorite of mine. It is a vintage piece that I found at a local antique shop and I love how it fits great with the overall theme of the room.
  • The old crate is another vintage find of mine but there are many reproductions available online to choose from. It serves as double duty in that I placed it under the basket to add a little height and it serves as storage for Coco’s toys when she’s not playing with them.
  • The large straw summer basket is another example of double duty decorating. It was used all summer for beach trips and now it holds and hides extra shoes. I placed the giant faux pumpkins on top to help disguise the shoes and it’s a fantastic way to introduce pumpkin season.A bushel of pumpkins. When decorating I always think of items I already have that can be useful. I brought out this beautiful large plaid (similar here) scarf and hung it for display. It is the essence of style for cooler temperatures that is the fall season. I’ll definitely be using it but I love that it adds a punch of color to the entry. How to add touches of fall to your mudroom. #decor Fall touches in the mudroom. How to add fall touches in the mudroom.I like to personalize areas when decorating, after all it is my home. The large alphabet letter denoting our last name is a whimsical and fun way to accomplish that.
  • When decorating seasonally take a cue from nature by bringing some of the outdoors in. A local farmer had huge bundles of cornstalks for sale and I stopped to pick one. It was so huge that I had to pluck some of the stalks off in order to decorate this little corner. I’m sure they’re available at most nurseries.

  • Use hats, jackets, sweaters, scarves and boots.
  • Pillows with plaid or buffalo check are quintessential fall and winter prints.
  • Add faux pumpkins and autumnal florals for softness.
  • For a rustic touch a basketful of firewood is always a good idea!
  • Jute or natural straw area rugs are a great and practical way to add texture.
