How to make Gluten Free Spaghetti & Meatballs!

This dish is quite easy to assemble if you have about an hours time to dedicate to it. Although not everything is made from scratch by using store bought fresh pasta and organic tomato sauce you’ll end up with an amazing meal! And while the meatballs finish cooking in the simmering sauce, you can set the table and help yourself to a fine glass of red wine.

This recipe I learned from watching my favorite cook, Ina Garten of Barefoot Contessa. I absolutely adore her! I love how simple, clean and easy her presentations are. I altered the recipe a little to suit my personal tastes. I’m using Gluten-Free pasta for the extra health benefits and I refrained from using white bread crumbs as well. I also chose to use organic ready made pasta sauce versus making my own, due to time constraints. But the core of the recipe remains the same and is amazingly delish!

for the meatballs
  1. 1/2 pound Ground Veal
  2. 1/2 pound Ground Pork
  3. 1 pound Ground Beef
  4. 1/2 Cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
  5. 1/2 Cup freshly grated Parmesan Cheese
  6. salt & pepper to taste
  7. 1/2 teaspoon ground Nutmeg
  8. 1 extra-large Egg
  9. 3/4 cup of tap water
  10. canola oil for frying
additional items
  1. 1 pound Gluten Free Spaghetti
  2. 1 Jar ready made Organic Pasta sauce
  3. fresh Basil leaves for garnish (julienned)
  4. freshly grated Parmesan Cheese
  1. Cook pasta according to package directions.
  2. Pour about 1/4 cup of oil into frying pan or deep skillet and heat over medium-high heat.
  3. Place the ground meats, bread crumbs, cheese, salt & pepper, nutmeg, egg and water in a bowl and combine all ingredients using your hands, do not overmix.
  4. Lightly form 2-inch meatballs.
  5. In small batches place the meatballs in the heated oil and brown on all sides. Turn carefully with a spatula. About 5 minutes each batch.
  6. Remove the meatballs to a plate covered with paper towels. Discard the oil after done.
  7. Return all the meatballs to skillet and add the pasta sauce and season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes.
  8. Serve over cooked spaghetti. Sprinkle with basil leaves and freshly grated cheese.
  1. Approximately yielding, 14 meatballs.
